False Positive Pregnancy Test

You would probably be confused by such a result, wondering what went wrong. Home pregnancy tests say they are more than 98 percent accurate, but yours turned out to be false positive. Check the following explanations and look for possible reasons.

One of the most common reasons for false positive pregnancy test is improper use of test. It is very important to make sure you have understood the instructions written on the package before starting the test. Depending on a test 3 minutes should be the time needed for the results to show. Due to a great excitement, some women even go back to look for the test in the trash just to make sure the results haven’t changed. There’s no need to do that, really.

Women who use certain medications may have predisposition for false positive pregnancy test. Drugs like phenothiazine may also affect those results. HCG therapy and other treatments may change pregnancy test results as well.  Sometimes the urine can cause false results by being contaminated with certain bacteria.

Sometimes test itself can have the evaporation line. That means that the line on it is not clear and bold, but may change over those three minutes. In this case, taking the pregnancy test again couple of days later or using a digital one is highly recommended.

Expiration date on pregnancy test is something you should check before even buying it. It’s not that common, but if taking a defective one, it will probably lead to false positive pregnancy results.
