How to Tell Your Parents You’re Pregnant
In case you are very young or even a teenager, the most difficult part of getting pregnant is the question whether or how to tell your parents you’re pregnant. Speaking up is hard, but it is also a brave and the most responsible act.
Letting your family know that you are having a baby can be complicated, but it depends on the way you share those news. Maybe this is the last situation they would want their child to be in – so they may get mad and panic – but you will realize that they are able to give you best support and advice. If you think it would be easier for your parents, you can to talk to them one at a time in private. Prepare yourself for rather strong reactions after telling the news. Their reaction doesn’t have to be harsh, but it is certain that it will result in strong emotions. Some parents react more emotional or even with anger, while others are easy to talk to in stressful situations.

Ask your partner or sibling to assist you when confronting parents. You can also ask your doctor for some advice on this. Plan the most convenient time and place. Think about your talk in advance in order to resist yelling back at them and make the big talk more productive. Give your best in explaining yourself and be calm. Tell them if you made the mistake. If the birth control method failed they should not blame it on you anyway. Give them some time to think and listen to their suggestions.
Share your feelings and show them how mature and brave you are or tend to be. Maybe you will need to have more than just one conversation. Give them some extra time to think and accept the news. No matter how difficult it may sound before telling your parents, you’ll see it’s the best possible way to solve the issue and make it through without consequences. Try to listen and respect their opinion. This can only bring your family closer together.
